About Me
From the moment I built my first balsa-wood glider at around twelve years old, I was hooked. I also spent countless evenings sanding, balancing, and testing those fragile free-flight models, learning through trial and error how a single small mistake could mean the difference between a perfect climb and a crash landing.
That early hobby taught me far more than I realised at the time: patience, precision, creativity, and resilience. Skills that would later become the foundation for both my 25-year career in technology and my journey as a content creator in the RC aviation world.

Education and Early Curiosity
After school, I studied a BTEC First in Engineering at South Downs College. Because of my experience with tools and model building, I already understood measurement, accuracy, and craftsmanship. My friend (who also shared the hobby) and I often finished our projects first, then helped our classmates complete theirs.
Part of the course involved just one hour a week of Computer-Aided Design (CAD). That was my first real introduction to IT. I didn’t know it then, but that hour changed everything. It sparked a lifelong interest in technology and design.
After completing my engineering course, I went on to achieve a BTEC National Diploma in Information Technology, graduating with Distinction — and stepping fully into the world of tech.
Building a Career in Technology
Over the past 25 years, I’ve built a career that spans hands-on technical roles, leadership, and executive management across the MSP and IT services industry:
- Colt International Ltd – Started as a Junior PC Administrator and, after four promotions, became Senior IT Administrator.
- Nexus Software UK – Expanded my role over eight years to include Senior Network Administrator, Webmaster, and Product Development Support.
- Taylor Made Computer Solutions – Progressed through Business Solutions Specialist, Software Development Manager, Technical Services Delivery Manager, and finally Head of Account Management.
- Autotask & Datto – Joined the vendor side, leading teams in Solution Consulting, Product Management, and Partner Success across international markets.
- Inbay Ltd – Served as CEO, driving business growth, operational efficiency, and strategic direction.
- Pia – EVP, UK & Growth, helping expand into new regions.
- N-able – Business Development Director, supporting MSP partners across the UK and Europe.
- Adelvium – In 2025, I co-founded Adelvium, a consultancy that helps MSPs scale, optimise, and maximise value.
Each step of my career built on the same mindset I learned at the workbench: focus on detail, think ahead, test, adjust, and never stop learning.
From Hobby to Influence
What started as a childhood hobby eventually became something much bigger. I began sharing my flying experiences, build tips, and event videos online and over time, my YouTube channel “Matt Takhar RC” grew into a recognised names in the RC aviation community.
Today, with tens of thousands of followers across YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, I create videos, podcasts, and event coverage for enthusiasts worldwide. I collaborate with leading RC brands, review products, and travel to events across the UK and beyond, including MAAD Dubai, Model Shop Leeds 70th Anniversary, and Big Up the Kidz Fun Fly.
But beyond the views and followers, what I value most is the ability to inspire others, especially young people. I want kids to see that a hobby like this isn’t just about flying planes. It’s about engineering, creativity, problem-solving, and communication. The same skills that can lead to careers in technology, engineering, design, or business.
Life Lessons That Still Guide Me
Over the years, I’ve realised how deeply my hobby shaped who I am, both personally and professionally:
- Precision & Quality – Every successful flight comes down to millimetres; that same attention to detail drives success in technology and leadership.
- Problem-Solving & Resilience – When things go wrong (and they always do), you learn to stay calm, analyse, and fix it — lessons that apply as much in the boardroom as in the workshop.
- Confidence & Communication – Talking to fellow pilots, presenting at events, and building an audience online gave me the confidence to speak clearly and lead teams — something that didn’t come naturally, especially for someone who has always found grammar and spelling difficult.
- Community & Mentorship – Just as I once helped classmates with engineering projects, I now mentor business leaders and young flyers alike.
Bringing It All Together
Running Adelvium today combines everything I’ve learned from model building to managing international teams and creating digital content. Whether it’s crafting a business strategy, recording a YouTube video, or mentoring a young pilot, the mindset is the same:
- Be curious.
- Stay precise.
- Keep learning.
- Help others succeed.
What started with a rubber-powered model aircraft has turned into a lifelong journey through engineering, technology, leadership, and creativity.
If my story inspires even one young person to pick up a toolkit, try something hands-on, or dream a little bigger, then it’s been worth every flight, crash, and rebuild along the way.
