Introduction
The Futaba 16IZ transmitter is known for its reliability and advanced features, but like any piece of tech, certain parts—like the antenna—may need replacing over time. Whether due to wear and tear or clumsy mistake, replacing the antenna on your 16IZ is a straightforward process. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the steps, highlighting just how simple it is to make the switch with a few quick steps. Follow along to ensure your transmitter stays in top shape, ready for your next RC adventure!
Step-by-Step Guide to Changing the Antenna on the Futaba 16IZ
1. Unclip the Front and Back Antenna Covers
Begin by locating the cover at the front of the antenna base. Using gentle pressure, unclip the cover. This will reveal the two screws you need to remove in order to remove the rear panel, giving you access to the antenna’s attachment point.

2. Detach the rear panel
Next, remove the rear panel which will then reveal the antenna’s attachment point. Carefully lift it out to avoid damaging any of the surrounding components.

3. Remove the Old Antenna
With the plate unclipped, you should now be able to remove the old antenna. Gently disconnect it from its connection point. The antenna and housing should now be separated from the main TX body.

4. Detach the antenna from the housing
You should now be able to unclip the faulty antenna from the antenna housing to replace what is needed.

5. Reattach the Plastic Plate and Cover
Once the new antenna is in place, reverse the process you just took to refit your new antenna back to your Futaba T16IZ.

Tips & Precautions
• Warranty: Opening your transmitter is likely to void your warranty.
• Handle the Antenna Gently: Antennas are delicate components, so take care when removing and replacing them to avoid any unnecessary bending or pressure.
• Secure the Plate and Cover: Make sure the plastic plate and cover are fully clipped in place after installation. This helps to maintain a secure fit for the antenna and prevents any movement during operation.
Conclusion
After completing the installation, turn on your Futaba 16IZ transmitter to ensure everything is functioning correctly. Make sure you perform a range test as it will help you confirm that the new antenna is installed properly and providing a strong signal.
