A lot has changed since I first started in this amazing hobby of ours. For example, electric models have come a very long way. Pre-built foam models are now a thing, a big thing at that! You can also get highly finished 3D models from manufactures like Extreme Flight, Pilot-RC, Skywing and others.
Overall I would say the amount of “products” that are now available in the hobby has grown massively and the quality has improved.
The entry point into the hobby, from a price perspective, has also lowered considerably, which is great! We need to encourage more people into the hobby and a lower entry price point does help. But what do you actually get for your money?
I recently reviewed the Robbe Air Trainer 140 which is geared at this market. A cheap trainer model that is easy to put together, comes pre-setup with servos, electric motor, speed controller and gyro (flight stabilisation).
It’s been a long time since I’ve looked at a Trainer, let alone flown one. Well I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and how this plane flys. You can check out my review video below.
Massive thanks to my friends at Model Shop Leeds from providing the model. Please visit them here https://bit.ly/ModelShopLeeds
Let me know what mode you learnt to fly on. For me it was a Cessna with OS 40, second hand from my local hobby shop.
